John and Judy Hellstrom We are Judy and John Hellstrom. Puhikereru has been our only home for 14 years now, a goal we started working towards in 1982. We had holidayed here since 1978 and lived here for a year in 1982/83 with our young children. We discovered then it was our place of being. Although this is our home, we work away from here from time to time. We have hosted many celebrations here with family and friends and manage the garden in trust for our children and grandchildren. We are sponsors of the Kaipupu Point Sounds Wildlife Sanctuary Read our blog Endeavour Inlet Conservation Trust |
The kereru or native New Zealand wood pigeon is a large (550 to 850 g) arboreal fruit-pigeon found in forests from Northland to Stewart Island/Rakiura, ranging in habitats from coastal to montane. They are often seen in Endeavour Inlet. Listen out for the characteristic sound of their wings when flying.
